Welcome to MAJI JAMII.

Maji Jamii Organization our calling to improve the life of Maasai

Tanzania like many other countries in Africa is very BIG geographically with many remote rural villages that need help to support their development initiatives where government assistance is not available. Being located in the remote rural villages, the Maasai people have lived a very basic life for hundreds of years and deserve basic quality of life with readily available water, education for their children and basic health services. It is donations from well-wishers that will make it possible to drill wells, build schools and health clinics. Therefore, through support from individuals and charitable organizations, the Maasai people can be afforded basic life improvements that everyone deserves.

Our approach and philosophy are that one project leads to another in the sense that we implement one project successfully and we move to the next project.

So far, with the generous support and contribution from Jim and Debby (USA) we were able to drill a well in Naisongoyon Village that has brought smiles and hope for an improved life for the residents as expressed by the smiles and happiness shown in videos and pictures galleries from Naisongoyon. Thus, one can simply tell how people have lived without reliable source of water and they had to walk on average about 10-30km (to and fro) daily to get water. However, despite successful drilling of the first well and associated smiles and reduced workload in fetching water among women, yet the well is not meeting domestic water demand for the whole village. This is mostly associated with two main factors; large village population (approximately 6,000 people fetching water from one well) and the village size whereby some women are still walking long distance (approximately 13 km) to fetch water from the currently drilled well. Therefore, drilling of a second well is of high demand along with a primary school and a clinic. Without donations nothing would be possible because the government can’t help all the remote villages at a time and likewise the people cannot help themselves. Our team is not paid, and so our dedicated time and efforts are our contributions. We also work to ensure that whenever donation received is effectively used for the intended goal.

Tanzania water crisis

Only 57 percent of Tanzania’s population of 57 million has access to an improved source of safe water, and only 30 percent has access to improved sanitation. People living under these circumstances, particularly women and children, spend a significant amount of time traveling long distances to collect water.

Our Focus:

We channel our energy toward providing very basic facilities to Maasai communities in Ngorongoro region of Tanzania.

1. Water & Sanitation infrastructure development

2. Hygiene education and promotion

3. Community Capacity Building

4. Environmental Management

Tanzania like many other countries in Africa is very BIG geographically with many remote rural villages that need help to support their development initiatives where government assistance is not available. Located in the remote rural villages, the Maasai people have lived a very difficult life for hundreds of years and deserve basic quality of life with readily available water, education for their children and basic health services.

It’s a harsh truth that need to be told that women spend the entire day in walking a distance of up to 18km for unclean water. Harassment, dangerous animals, heat from the sun belongs to them. Young girls don’t go to school but spend their time in helping their parents. This increases a circle of poverty. A water availability will solve this puzzle, girls will go to school and women will have time for other economic issues.

It is donations from good samaritans that will make it possible to drill wells, build schools and health clinics. Therefore, through support from charitable organizations, the Maasai people can be afforded basic life improvements that everyone deserves.

Our approach and philosophy are that one project leads to another in the sense that we implement one project successfully and we move to the next project.

Donations that we received from our generous friends from U.S.A(Jim and Debby) have allowed us to provide hope for the Maasai by drilling a well in Naisongoyon village that has brought smiles and an improved life for the residents as expressed by the smiles and happiness shown in videos and pictures galleries from Naisongoyon.

Therefore, one can simply tell how people have lived without reliable source of water and they had to walk on average about 10-30km (to and fro) daily to get water. Currently, we are planning to drill a second well within the village in area almost 13km away along with a primary school and clinic. We will be more than willing to do more for other villages too but without donations nothing would be possible because the government can’t help all the remote villages at a time and likewise the people cannot help themselves. I and my team do not take a salary and that our time and effort is our contribution. We do not have the money to fulfill our dreams but do have WILL and DESIRE to help the Maasai people of Tanzania. Donations make it all possible. And we will work to ensure all the money is spent to make the greatest impact on the lives of the Maasai people.

Restoring hope, building dignity of Maasai community in Ngorongoro District
