The access to safe water can protect and save lives, just because it's there. Access to safe water has the power to turn time spent into time saved, when it's close and not hours away.
For millions of women, children, and communities, access to safe water can turn problems into potential-unlocking education, economic opportunity and improved health.
Being an educated Maasai girl, born and raised in town, I have never known or imagined a place without a running water. I hold the bachelor degree from the University of Dar es Saalam, and I am teacher by profession. My Parents would narrate to me of how they could spend weeks without shower and that they had never seen a water tap until they see one in school. For me, it was a just like a scary movie but when I first set a foot to my grandparents’ village, what seemed to be a movie immediately turned into a reality that totally changed my life.
Maji Jamii came out as a means to save the community from the hardship brought about by the lack of water. It stands for “Community Water” carrying a literal meaning that life can only be possible, if there is water. This makes us distinguish ourselves in dealing with community projects that are Water and Sanitation, Health, Environmental Conservation, Education and Women Empowerment.
We are the change to the communities that we save. We witness the change through.
